Dutchess County lines the east bank of the Hudson, halfway between New York City and Albany. Poughkeepsie is the largest city and county seat, with Beacon, Fishkill, and Rhinebeck nearby.
The Walkway Over the Hudson, a former railroad bridge turned into the longest elevated pedestrian walkway in the world, is the standout. Below it, the river draws boaters and anglers all season.
Hyde Park adds the history, with the Franklin D. Roosevelt home and presidential library, and the Dutchess Wine Trail rounds out a weekend.
About a third of Dutchess County homes, roughly 33%, heat with oil. We usually have a good list of competitive suppliers to choose from.
